LUCKNOW: Nitish Kumar, the chief minister of Bihar, might run for the Lok Sabha in 2024 from the Phulpur district in Uttar Pradesh. Senior JD(U) leader Dhananjay Singh hinted in this direction when he indicated that party members in Uttar Pradesh wanted Nitish Kumar to run for the seat. The Phulpur constituency, which has previously been held by past prime ministers Jawaharlal Nehru and V.P. Singh, is seen by JD(U) leaders as being ideal for Nitish Kumar because Kurmis, the Chief Minister's caste, predominate there. Keshari Devi Patel, the BJP's current representative for Phulpur, is also Kurmi. Prior to the 2024 parliamentary elections, Dhananjay Singh stated that the party is attempting to bring together the Opposition, including the Samajwadi Party (SP), Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), and the Congress, in order to prevent the BJP from retaking power. "We believe that it is essential to prevent the BJP from retaking power. This is extremely likely to happen if the opposition joins together and the election is between the NDA and the UPA. "Our leaders are making an effort to unite the SP, BSP, and Congress in the state. RLD (Rashtriya Lok Dal) has already partnered with the SP, the national general secretary of the JD(U), Dhananjay Singh said. He continued by expressing optimism that the BSP would also support the JD(U). In a bid to unite opposition parties under one banner, Nitish Kumar recently met SP leader Akhilesh Yadav in Lucknow. He has also spoken with Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge, the leaders of the Congress, in Delhi. In Uttar Pradesh, the BJP and its allies Apna Dal (Sonelal) won 64 Lok Sabha seats in 2019, while the BSP, SP, and Congress won 10, 5, and 1 seats, respectively. "Three states -- Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and Jharkhand -- have a total of 134 parliamentary seats," stated Dhananjay Singh. We're trying to take between 60% and 70% of the seats. The party is laying the groundwork in Uttar Pradesh as well, and we are getting ready to run for six seats there. "We can win more than 50 seats in the Lok Sabha elections in Uttar Pradesh if we campaign together. Nitish ji wants the entire UPA to run in elections together to face the BJP head-on.
