He had redefined welfare for the first time in India and proved fulfilling peoples' aspirations is the main feature of governance. This Government is going forward in his footsteps in the true spirit. In the undivided state of Andhra Pradesh, Dr. Rajasekhar Reddy was without a doubt the Congress' unchallenged leader. He guided the party to triumphs in the state in the elections of 2004 and 2009. The Congress' victory in Andhra Pradesh during these two elections had a significant role in the party gaining control of the federal government from 2004 to 2014. However, he could not complete his second tenure as chief minister as he lost his life in a helicopter mishap. Jagan Reddy founded the YSRCP and swept to victory in the 2019 Assembly elections in the remnant state of Andhra Pradesh after the Congress high command declined to consider him for the position of chief minister following the passing away of his father.
