Dehradun: In an exciting move to promote adventure tourism, the Uttarakhand tourism department has unveiled the 'Himalaya Airsafari,' introducing gyrocopters for a thrilling experience, a first-of-its-kind venture in the country. What are gyrocopters, you ask? They're compact, single-seater aircraft with freely rotating blades and propellers, powered by airflow rather than engines like those in helicopters. Used worldwide for military and law enforcement, these gyrocopters are set to become a part of India's tourism scene, owned by the Uttarakhand tourism department. The aim? To bolster adventure tourism in the region with the launch of the 'Himalaya Airsafari,' marking the country's inaugural gyrocopter-powered safari. As per an official statement, the first gyrocopter test flight in the nation was successfully conducted in Haridwar last Saturday. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation has granted the necessary approval to operate these gyrocopters, as confirmed by the tourism department. These advanced gyrocopters, equipped with state-of-the-art German technology, are poised to play a pivotal role in connecting tourists with the pristine, untouched destinations of Uttarakhand. Colonel Ashwini Pundir, Additional Chief Executive Officer of the Uttarakhand Tourism Development Board, shared insights following the gyrocopter flight test. He mentioned that the state is gearing up to launch the 'Himalayan Airsafari' initiative, enabling tourists to traverse effortlessly between locations while relishing panoramic views of the Himalayan range and serene rivers.
