GOA- Breaking News: A fishing vessel named Marthoma, carrying 13 crew members, collided with an Indian Navy submarine off the Goa coast, officials reported on Friday. Following the incident, the Indian Navy quickly initiated search and rescue operations, deploying six ships and aircraft to assist in the efforts.
According to the Indian Navy, 11 of the 13 crew members have been rescued so far. However, two fishermen remain missing. A Navy spokesperson said, “Eleven crew members have been rescued. Search and rescue operations for the two remaining crew members of Marthoma are ongoing and coordinated with the Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC) in Mumbai.”
The Navy has also diverted additional resources, including Coast Guard assets, to support the ongoing search for the missing crew members.
The cause of the collision is currently being investigated. The Navy has not shared further information about the condition of the missing fishermen or the status of the fishing vessel.
Earlier this year, a similar incident occurred when a fishing boat collided with a Sri Lankan naval vessel off the Tamil Nadu coast, resulting in the death of one fisherman.
