LAOS: The Indian Embassy in Laos has successfully rescued 47 Indian nationals trapped in cyber scam centers in the Bokeo province. This operation marks a significant effort by the embassy to combat illegal activities in the region. The rescue mission, announced on Saturday, involved freeing 29 individuals who were handed over by Lao authorities after a crackdown on the Golden Triangle Special Economic Zone (SEZ). The remaining 18 individuals had approached the embassy directly, seeking urgent assistance. Embassy officials traveled from Vientiane to Bokeo to coordinate with local authorities and facilitate the rescue. Upon their arrival, Indian Ambassador to Laos, Prashant Agrawal, met with the rescued individuals to discuss their experiences and provide guidance on their next steps. The embassy has completed all necessary procedures with Lao authorities for the repatriation of these individuals. So far, 30 of the 47 have either returned to India or are en route, while the remaining 17 are awaiting final travel arrangements. Ambassador Agrawal emphasized the embassy's commitment to the safety and well-being of Indian nationals, stating that it is a top priority. Last month, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar addressed the issue of trafficking with Laos Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone during his visit. The Indian Embassy had previously rescued 13 Indians from similar cyber scam centers. The embassy has urged the Lao government to take stronger measures against fraudulent activities affecting foreign nationals. What is Digital Arrest?
