Heavy Rains Lash Thane and Palghar Districts Overnight

New Delhi: Overnight, Thane and Palghar districts in Maharashtra were battered by heavy rains, causing concerns of water-logging and potential hazards in affected areas, as per officials' reports on Sunday.

In Thane city, there were reports of tree branches collapsing, indicative of the intensity of the downpour. Yasin Tadvi, the head of Thane Municipal Corporation's disaster management cell, disclosed that within a 24-hour span until 8:30 am on Sunday, the city received a significant rainfall of 37.06 mm. Notably, the highest rainfall, measuring 16.76 mm, was recorded between 12:30 am and 1:30 am on Sunday, followed by 10.93 mm between 3:30 am and 4:30 am.

These heavy rains resulted in water-logging in certain areas of Thane, posing challenges for residents and authorities alike. Meanwhile, in Palghar district, similar weather conditions prevailed, with heavy rainfall reported across the region. Despite the inclement weather, Vivekanand Kadam, the chief of the district disaster control cell, assured that there were no reports of any untoward incidents attributed to the downpour.

The situation underscores the vulnerability of these areas to seasonal weather patterns, emphasizing the need for robust disaster management strategies and proactive measures to mitigate the impact of such natural events on local communities.
