AMARAVATI: Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh has inaugurated Grasim Industries Ltd's Chlor-Alkali production factory at BB Puram in East Godavari district. It is one of the country's largest Chlor-alkali production projects, with an investment of Rs 2,470 crore and a workforce of 2,400 employees. The Chief Minister said, Grasim’s new unit will improve the state's image and assist it in attracting many entities. He added that the government has previously adopted legislation to employ 75% of the local population, which would provide abundant job opportunities for the locals through the Aditya Birla group's Grasim project. He recalled the difficulties in establishing the unit, saying that the previous government had approved the project just two months before the elections, without resolving any of the ground-level issues or addressing the concerns of the people. He said that after his YSR Congress assumed control, they made corrective measures to rectify the issues. The government has withdrawn its proposal to build a captive thermal plant, the CM said. He also noted that Grasim Industries used advanced German technologies to address the challenges of underground water contamination, as well as a recycling plant with zero liquid discharge to ensure that no liquid flowed out of the plant. He promised that the factory would only bring good things to the locals, and that CSR funding would be used to help develop the area. Earlier, Aditya Birla Group Chairman Kumar Mangalam Birla and Jagan Mohan Reddy inaugurated the plaque and paid a visit to the factory. He stated that the government is dropping the charges against the 131 protesters who were against the plant's construction owing to pollution concerns.
