Tech giant Google has expressed its support to Indian authorities following a tragic accident that claimed the lives of three men who drove off an unfinished bridge while relying on Google Maps for navigation. The victims were traveling to attend a wedding in Uttar Pradesh when their car fell from the incomplete bridge into the Ramganga River. The incident occurred on Sunday, according to police reports. Officials said the driver was following directions provided by Google Maps when the accident happened. In connection with the case, the police questioned a representative from Google Maps and some officials from the government’s public works department. A Google spokesperson conveyed condolences in a statement, saying, "Our deepest sympathies go out to the families. We're working closely with the authorities and providing our support to investigate the issue." Local authorities highlighted the lack of safety measures on the bridge. A police officer stated that the bridge had sustained damage during floods last year, but no barriers or warning signs were installed to prevent such tragedies. The accident occurred as the car, reportedly traveling at high speed, approached the end of the bridge. The driver was unable to stop in time, causing the vehicle to plunge 25 feet into the river. All three passengers lost their lives instantly. The incident underscores the critical need for adequate safety precautions at construction sites and the importance of updated information in navigation systems.
