In a move to enhance customer satisfaction, Google has expanded the software support for its Pixel devices to include five years of operating system (OS) updates and security patches. This is an increase from the previous commitment and sets a higher standard for Android devices. However, the Pixel Tablet will still adhere to its original three-year update policy, with updates for other eligible devices expected to continue until Android 18. Longer Software Support for Pixel Phones Unlike many Android manufacturers that often fall short on promised updates, Google has taken a different path by offering extended software support for its Pixel lineup. Initially, the Pixel 6, Pixel 7, and Pixel Fold were promised three years of OS updates and five years of security patches. Now, Google has announced an additional two years of OS updates for these devices. This means the Pixel 6, Pixel 7, and Pixel Fold will receive OS updates and security patches for five years from their respective launch dates. With this policy, the Pixel 6 will remain supported until Android 17, while the Pixel 7 and Pixel Fold will receive updates up to Android 18, projected to launch in 2027. Pixel Tablet Excluded Despite these enhancements, the Pixel Tablet is not included in this extended policy. It remains under the initial three-year update plan that was announced during its launch.
