Panaji: A case of rape of a British-origin woman in Goa's Panaji has come to light. Police have arrested a 32-year-old man on charges of rape and sent him to jail. A senior police officer said the accused has been identified as Joel Vincent D'Souza. He raped a British-born woman on June 2. He said the victim was resting on 'Sweet Lake' near Arumbol Beach in North Goa on June 2. In the meantime, Joel made the woman a victim of his lust. The woman, along with her husband, has lodged a complaint with the police. He said that both of them have come to India to visit Goa. On June 2, the woman was lying near the beach. Just then Joel came there and raped the woman. At present, the police have arrested the accused and have initiated further action. Earlier in May last month, Goa police had arrested a man from Karnataka for allegedly raping a 12-year-old Russian girl at a resort in Arumbol. The accused worked as a room attendant at the resort. According to the complaint received by the police, the accused raped the girl in the swimming pool and then in the room. According to the complaint, the incident took place when the girl's mother had left her in the swimming pool and went to collect some essential items from the market near Arumbol. The accused fled the spot after the incident. However, within 24 hours of receiving the complaint, the accused was arrested from Gadag (Karnataka).
