Firozabad: A devastating explosion at a firecracker godown-cum-factory in Uttar Pradesh's Firozabad district has resulted in the death of five people, including two children and a woman. The blast, which occurred on Monday night in the Naushera area under Shikohabad police station limits, also caused extensive damage to nearby homes, according to a police official. The explosion led to significant destruction, with local residents reporting damage to around a dozen houses and the collapse of some roofs. Circle Officer Shikohabad Praveen Tiwari confirmed that the blast resulted in five fatalities and left eleven others injured. The victims, identified as Meera Devi (45), Aman Kushwaha (17), Gautam Kushwaha (16), Kumari Ichha (4), and Abhinaye (2), were confirmed by officials based on information from the district hospital. The children were siblings. In the aftermath, family members of the deceased initially refused to perform the last rites until compensation for rebuilding their homes was provided. However, after discussions with District Magistrate Ramesh Ranjan and SSP Saurabh Dixit, the families agreed to proceed with the funerals. Shikohabad MLA Mukesh Verma, present at the scene, reported that the Chief Minister's Office has assured compensation of ₹4 lakhs for each deceased's family. Additionally, the MLA has requested a 100-yard plot for those whose homes were destroyed. UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has directed district administration officials to provide medical treatment to the injured and expedite relief efforts in response to the tragedy.
