Agartala: A Border Security Force (BSF) jawan was martyred in a fierce encounter with suspected National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT) militants along the Indo-Bangladesh border in the Kanchanpur subdivision of North Tripura. In fact, the jawan who was seriously injured in the encounter was taken to the hospital, where the doctors declared him dead. According to the report, the injured soldier was taken to Agartala for treatment. The slain jawan has been identified as Girijesh Kumar of the 145th battalion of the BSF, the official said. According to officials, a BSF team was on an operation in the Border-II outpost area of Kanchanpur subdivision, in the meantime firing started from the Bangladesh side. Superintendent of Police (SP) Kiran Kumar said, "A group of heavily armed militants opened fire on BSF personnel from Jupui area of Rangamati Hills district of Bangladesh. After which Indian soldiers also fired in retaliation, which led to an encounter between the two sides. During the encounter, the BSF jawan was hit by four bullets.'' A search operation is currently underway in the area.
