What causes severe allergies? This question becomes even more important when the body suddenly starts showing strange and unusual symptoms. A woman named Georgina experienced this when she used an IUD (intrauterine device) to prevent her pregnancy.

In April, Georgina got an IUD installed as a contraceptive. But within a few days, strange symptoms started appearing in her body. She got red rashes on her body, her eyes started burning and she also started getting headaches. Initially, she thought that all this was happening due to the stress of everyday life and other reasons, but as time passed, her condition started deteriorating and she needed to consult a doctor.

On visiting the doctor, Georgina told that she started having a strange burning sensation in her eyes. Also, she started sweating and rashes also appeared on her cheeks and face. The doctor gave her steroids, which calmed the itching and allergies for some time. But this relief was temporary, and soon the itching started bothering her again.

After seeing her symptoms, Georgina consulted a doctor and also got some tests done. The MRI scan revealed that a condition similar to eczema was developing in her body. However, Georgina found it hard to believe that these could be symptoms of eczema.

Georgina noticed that her problems worsened whenever she got her period. She underwent a series of tests and eventually it was discovered that her body was experiencing increased progesterone levels, which was causing such severe and rare itching.

Progesterone is a hormone that plays an important role in women's menstrual cycle and pregnancy. However, some women may have allergies due to increased levels of progesterone. This condition is called "progesterone dermatitis", in which problems like skin rashes, itching and irritation can occur. Georgina  's story makes it clear that hormonal changes in the body can also cause serious allergy problems. It is important that if such symptoms appear, a doctor should be consulted immediately and proper treatment should be done. It is very important to detect and treat hormonal allergies on time so that the problem does not become more serious.
