New Delhi: A woman has been arrested for the brutal murder of Delhi Police head constable Ratan Lal during the 2020 anti-Hindu riots in Delhi. The woman had been absconding in disguise for the last two-and-a-half years to avoid arrest. The Delhi Police had also announced a reward of Rs 50,000 for the accused woman. The 27-year-old woman criminal is a resident of Subhash Mohalla in Bhajanpura, Delhi. She was nabbed by the police from the area of Cogent Building in Noida's Sector-63 at around 05:30 pm on Thursday (October 13). The woman had fled her house after being accused of the constable's murder. She was staying in rented houses in different areas to dodge the police. During this time she also married a man. The man had arranged a job as a customer care executive in a Noida-based company for the accused woman. During the job, she was in constant touch with her family members and relatives. For this, she used the company's customer care number. Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) of North-East Delhi Sanjay Kumar Saini has informed that a special team was formed to arrest this woman. The operation wing was searching for the absconding accused in the murder case during the riots. The Delhi Police team was also keeping an eye on her relatives in search of the woman. Meanwhile, the police found that one of her close relatives used to repeatedly call the customer care number of the Noida-based company from his mobile. When the police scanned her CDR, they got suspicious and on this basis, the woman was arrested. During interrogation, the woman confessed to the crime. According to the woman, she was actively involved in anti-CAA-NRC protests during the riots in February 2020. At the same time, after going missing, the Delhi Police declared the woman an absconder. Ratan Lal was beaten to death by a mob of Islamic fundamentalists while on duty at Chand Bagh on the main Wazirabad Road during the Delhi riots. Apart from Ratan Lal, the then DCP of Shahdara Amit Sharma and the then ACP of Gokulpuri Anuj Kumar were also badly injured in this attack. Along with them, 50 other policemen were also injured. Ratan Lal, 42, was a resident of Fatehpur Tihwali village in Rajasthan's Sikar district. He was reinstated as a constable in Delhi Police in 1998 and was posted at Gokulpuri police station.
