Delhi Court Extends Judicial Custody of Manish Sisodia in Excise Policy Scam Case

New Delhi: A Delhi court has extended the judicial custody of AAP leader and former Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia until July 6 in connection with the alleged excise policy scam being investigated by the CBI. This extension follows the recent denial of bail by the Delhi High Court.

Justice Swarana Kanta Sharma's bench determined that Sisodia failed to meet the triple test required for bail in the corruption case, as well as the twin conditions mandated under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), 2002. Despite this, the high court clarified that Sisodia could continue to visit his ailing wife weekly under the same conditions set by the trial court.

In March, the Supreme Court dismissed curative petitions filed by Sisodia, challenging the rejection of review pleas against its 2023 verdict denying him bail in the liquor policy scam. The top court's judgment on October 30, 2023, denied Sisodia bail but allowed for the possibility of reapplying if the trial proceeds slowly over the next three months.

Special Judge Kaveri Baweja of Rouse Avenue Court also refused Sisodia's second request for regular bail on April 30. The trial court noted that delays in the case proceedings were largely due to actions attributable to Sisodia himself, rejecting his claims of undue delay.

The ongoing legal battles and continued custody reflect the serious nature of the allegations and the complexities involved in the investigation of the excise policy scam.
