Delhi Braces for Heavy Rainfall: IMD Issues Orange Alert as Monsoon Advances

New Delhi: Delhi and surrounding regions are set to experience continuous rainfall over the next few days, as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert. The alert predicts moderate to heavy downpours from June 30 (Sunday) to July 2 (Tuesday).

In the upcoming week, Delhi's temperatures are expected to range between 37°C (maximum) and 25°C (minimum), according to the IMD's daily weather bulletin. The IMD uses a color-coded warning system: green (no action needed), yellow (watch and stay updated), orange (be prepared), and red (take action).

On Saturday, several parts of Delhi, including Rohini, Burari, and central Delhi, experienced rain. The Safdarjung weather station recorded 8.9 mm of rainfall, while Lodhi Road saw 12.6 mm between 2:30 pm and 5:30 pm.

Apart from Delhi, northern India is also bracing for rainfall as the Southwest Monsoon progresses. The IMD forecasts isolated heavy rainfall for Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, and Rajasthan from June 30 to July 3.

The monsoon made further progress into the remaining parts of east Uttar Pradesh and some areas of west Uttar Pradesh on Saturday. Conditions are favorable for the monsoon to advance into more areas of west Rajasthan, Haryana, Chandigarh, Punjab, and the remaining parts of west Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, and Jammu in the next two to three days.

In central India, conditions are likely to be favorable for the monsoon to move into the remaining parts of Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, and additional areas of Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh.

The IMD also predicts isolated heavy rainfall for Konkan-Goa, Kerala, southern Karnataka, and Tamil Nadu in the coming days. In Northeastern India, light to moderate rainfall, accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning, is expected over parts of West Bengal, Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura over the next three days.
