CUET-UG 2024: 22,920 Candidates Achieve Perfect Scores Across 45 Subjects

The Common University Entrance Test-Undergraduate (CUET-UG 2024), a crucial gateway to undergraduate studies in 283 Indian universities, has seen a notable increase in top scorers this year. A total of 22,920 candidates achieved perfect scores across 45 subjects, marking a slight rise from previous years.

Unlike the previous years of 2022 and 2023, when scores were adjusted using a normalization method due to multiple test sessions, this year’s results reflect a straightforward scoring system. As announced by the National Testing Agency (NTA), top scorers this year received a perfect score of 200. For context, in the earlier years, the scoring involved percentiles due to the complexity of the exam administration.

The NTA unveiled the results on Sunday evening, bringing relief to countless students. Out of the 63 subjects, 62 are scored out of 200 marks, with the General Test paper having a maximum of 250 marks.

Top Subjects for Perfect Scores

Business Studies emerged as the subject with the highest number of perfect scores, with 8,024 students achieving a flawless 200. Political Science followed with 5,141 perfect scores, and History saw 2,520 students attaining full marks.

In the language papers, 1,904 students achieved perfect scores across 18 of the 33 offered languages. Notably, among the 8.2 lakh candidates who appeared for the English test, 1,683 scored a perfect 200. Sanskrit and Punjabi also had over 50 perfect scorers each.

The number of students scoring in the 100th percentile has increased from 21,159 in 2022 to 22,836 in 2023. This year’s rise in perfect scorers, especially in subjects like Business Studies, is expected to intensify competition for popular programs at top universities like Delhi University (DU). The number of top scorers in Business Studies has surged from 2,357 in 2023 to 8,024 this year.

Student Highlights

Among the high achievers is Khusali Nahataa from Delhi, who has set her sights on gaining admission to Shri Ram College of Commerce (SRCC) or Lady Shri Ram College (LSR) at DU. A student at Modern School, Barakhambha Road, Nahataa attributes her success to self-study, stating, “I focused on Business Studies with extensive mind maps and charts. I didn’t attend any coaching classes and dedicated 8-10 hours daily to self-study.”

Similarly, Anjali Jyoti from DAV Noida, Sector 56, scored a perfect 200 in three subjects viz. Geography, Political Science, and Psychology. Jyoti plans to pursue a BA in Political Science at a top DU college and mentions, “I relied solely on self-study as the syllabus was mostly from Class 12, with only a small portion requiring additional resources.”

Examination and Administration Updates

On July 7, NTA released the provisional answer keys for CUET-UG 2024, and a retest was conducted on July 19 for over 1,000 candidates whose grievances were validated. The release of results was delayed due to issues surrounding other competitive exams, including NEET-UG and UGC-NET. Originally set for June 30, CUET-UG results were postponed due to these controversies and logistical issues, including a last-minute cancellation of the exam in Delhi.

The CUET-UG 2024 was conducted in hybrid mode for the first time, with some subjects administered in pen-paper mode and others via computer-based testing (CBT). Despite these challenges, over 13.4 lakh candidates registered for the test across 261 universities, demonstrating the exam’s growing significance in Indian higher education.
