CPI to Contest Against Priyanka Gandhi Vadra in Wayanad By-Poll

The Communist Party of India (CPI) has announced that it will field a candidate against Priyanka Gandhi Vadra in the upcoming Wayanad Lok Sabha by-election. This move underscores CPI’s commitment to contesting the seat, as confirmed by CPI state secretary Binoy Viswam.

Viswam clarified that the CPI’s decision aligns with the Left Democratic Front's (LDF) policy of opposing the BJP. He emphasized that the LDF would never take any action favorable to the BJP, reinforcing their intent to participate fully in the by-poll.

Addressing questions about Priyanka Gandhi Vadra’s candidacy, Viswam acknowledged that the Congress has the freedom to select its candidates. He also questioned the Congress party's strategy of bringing Rahul Gandhi to Wayanad if they intended to vacate the seat shortly after.

In the recent general elections, senior CPI leader Annie Raja contested against Rahul Gandhi in Wayanad. Following a leadership meeting in New Delhi, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge announced that Rahul Gandhi would retain the Rae Bareli Lok Sabha seat in Uttar Pradesh, while his sister Priyanka would contest from Wayanad. Rahul Gandhi had won both seats and was required to vacate one within 14 days of the election results, which were declared on June 4.

The CPI's decision to field a candidate adds a new dynamic to the upcoming by-poll in Wayanad, signaling a competitive election ahead.
