Hearing in Tarun Tejpal rape case adjourned, next date is 21 October

Panaji: The Additional District and Sessions Court at Mapusa in Goa has adjourned the hearing till October 21 in the rape case against Tehelka's former editor-in-chief Tarun Tejpal. The victim could not attend the hearing on Monday. Special public prosecutor Francisco Tavora told the press that the court has set a hearing for October 21, 22, 23, during which Tejpal's defense will cross-examine the victim.

Tejpal appealed to the Supreme Court to dismiss the charges levelled against him, due to which the hearing commenced in September 2017 was delayed. The apex court dismissed Tejpal's appeal in August this year and ordered the lower court to complete the hearing within six months.

Let us tell you that Tejpal was booked under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) in November 2013 for sexually assaulting a junior colleague inside a lift of a resort hotel in Goa during an event in Tehelka magazine. Tejpal was booked under Section 376, Section 341, Section 342, Section 354A and Section 354B of the IPC.
