Kozhikode: The Congress party organized a solidarity rally in Kozhikode, Kerala on Thursday to express support for the people of Palestine amidst the ongoing Israel-Hamas war. Prominent Congress leaders, including Shashi Tharoor and KC Venugopal, attended the event. Addressing the gathering, Tharoor refuted claims that the party was avoiding the Israel-Palestine issue due to the ongoing Assembly elections. He stated that Sonia and Priyanka Gandhi had already addressed the issue during the election campaign. Tharoor also criticized the foreign policy pursued by Prime Minister Narendra Modi's government, accusing it of deviating from India's long-standing policy on the matter. Venugopal echoed Tharoor's sentiment, highlighting that the abstention from voting on the UN resolution for a ceasefire is contrary to India's position. He emphasized the need to support negotiations for the freedom of Palestine. Reports suggest that over 50,000 Congress workers participated in the rally, according to a statement released by the Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) chief K Sudhakaran. Sudhakaran affirmed that the event aimed to bring together all secular and democratic individuals in support of the Congress party's cause.
