New Delhi: The Char Dham Yatra commenced on Friday as the doors of Kedarnath, Yamunotri, and Gangotri temples opened for devotees. On the first day of the yatra, there was a significant rush of devotees heading towards Yamunotri. A viral video surfaced, showing a large crowd of devotees tightly packed on the hillside path.
The video raised concerns about the safety of devotees and questioned the arrangements made by the administration. Devotees complained of having to wait in line for hours and alleged mismanagement by the Uttarakhand government. In a telephone conversation with media, Arpan Yaduvanshi, the Superintendent of Police, Uttarkashi, clarified that the viral video was from the pedestrian route between Janaki Chatti and Yamunotri Dham, around 5 pm yesterday.
Yaduvanshi explained that heavy rainfall worsened the situation, coinciding with a significant influx of devotees heading towards Yamunotri Dham. Consequently, people gathered to seek shelter from the rain, leading to the chaotic scene in the video. The police quickly brought the situation under control in the entire area, with no injuries reported. A video shot around 2:30 pm today showed pilgrims trekking along the hillside path as light rain lashed the area. Currently, the situation is normal, and the pilgrimage to Yamunotri Dham is proceeding smoothly, the police confirmed.
