CBSE asks Schools not to start Academic Session before April 1

NEW DELHI: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has issued a warning to schools not to begin the academic year before April 1, citing the possibility of student anxiety and exhaustion.

The warning by the Central Board of Secondary Education comes after several schools started their academic session, especially for Classes 10 and 12.

"It has been noted that a few of the connected institutions have already begun their academic year. Students who attempt to complete a whole year's worth of coursework in a condensed timeframe run the danger of becoming overburdened and unable to keep up with the speed of learning, which can result in anxiety and burnout "Anurag Tripathi, the secretary of the CBSE, stated in a formal order.

The board has emphasised that scheduling extracurricular activities such as developing life skills, value education, health and physical education, work education, and community service within the academic session leaves students with insufficient time.

"All these activities are equally vital as academics. Thus, it is urged that the principals and institution heads of the schools connected with the board refrain from starting classes before the designated period and carefully adhere to the academic session from April 1 to March 31, " it reads

For Grades 10 and 12, the CBSE is currently holding the board exams. The exams for both classes started on February 15 and will end on March 21 for Class 10 and April 5 for Class 12.
