BREAKING: 7 workers died of suffocation in oil tank In Andhra

Andhra Pradesh: At least 7 workers died due to suffocation while cleaning an oil tank in a factory in Kakinada, Andhra Pradesh, said a police official on Thursday, February 9. "Seven Workers were hospitalised after inhaling gas while cleaning tankers of an edible oil manufacturing company in Ragampeta village" the official statement read.

The incident took place on the grounds of the Ambati Subbanna oil factory in G. Ragampeta, a mandal in the Kakinada district's Peddapuram mandal.

To clean it, the victims went inside a 24-foot-deep oil tanker one at a time. Two of the deceased came from the village of Pulimeru in the same mandal, while the other five were residents of Paderu in the Alluri Sitaramaraju district. Vechangi Krishna, Vechangi Narasimham, Vechangi Sagar, Korathadu Banji Babu, Karri Rama Rao, Prasad, and Kattamuri Jagadeesh were the names of the deceased. Police arrived at the scene quickly and started an investigation.

The incident shocked everyone in the community. The plant management allegedly failed to take the essential safety measures, which caused the catastrophe, according to the families of the deceased.

Collector Kritika Shukla and District Superintendent of Police M. Ravindranath Babu also flocked to the scene. The SP warned that the oil factory's managers would face criminal charges. The collector informed the grieving relatives that she would advocate for reparations from the government.

Chinnarajappa, a former home minister and local MLA, also went to the oil factory. He said that unqualified individuals were employed to clean the tanker.
