Mumbai: Navneet Rana, a prominent BJP leader contesting from Maharashtra's Amravati constituency, was booked for her remarks against the Congress during a campaign event. The FIR was registered at the Shadnagar police station in the state. Rana, while canvassing for BJP candidate Madhvi Latha in Hyderabad, stated that every vote cast in favor of the Congress would be a "vote for Pakistan." Confirming the FIR, the police revealed that they acted on a complaint filed by Krishna Mohan, part of the FST flying squad of the Election Commission (EC), who is currently on election duty in the state. According to Pratap Lingam, inspector at Shadnagar police station, Rana was booked under Section 188 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) for violating the model code of conduct. Rana had made similar statements on Thursday, targeting both the AIMIM and the Congress. She claimed that voting for these parties would essentially mean voting for Pakistan. Earlier, Navneet Rana responded to AIMIM leader Akbaruddin Owaisi's statement about the "Hindu-Muslim ratio" in the country, saying it would take her party "15 seconds" to balance it out. In a video posted on her X handle, Rana addressed the Owaisi brothers, stating that while they claimed it would take them "15 minutes" to achieve their goals, it would only take her party "15 seconds" if the police were removed or made to stand down. Rana's remarks were in response to Akbaruddin Owaisi's statement in 2013, where he warned "100 crore Hindus" about what his community could do if the police were withdrawn for "15 minutes." The BJP has fielded Navneet Rana as its candidate from the Amravati parliamentary seat in Maharashtra.
