In a significant development for Aadhaar card holders, the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has announced an extension of the deadline for free Aadhaar card updates. Initially set to end today, this deadline has now been extended to December 14, 2024. This extension provides Aadhaar cardholders an additional three months to update their Aadhaar details without incurring any charges. UIDAI had earlier provided a facility for updating Aadhaar cards that are over 10 years old, free of charge. This deadline was previously extended multiple times. Initially, the deadline was set for March 14, 2024, but it was first extended to June 14, 2024, and then to September 14, 2024. The latest extension now allows users to update their Aadhaar cards at no cost until December 14, 2024. How to Update Aadhaar Details Online To update Aadhaar details online, follow these steps: Visit the UIDAI Website: Go to the official UIDAI website at https://uidai.gov.in/. Login to My Aadhaar Portal: Navigate to the My Aadhaar portal on the homepage. Use the OTP sent to your registered mobile number to log in. Verify Your Details: Check your current Aadhaar details. If they are correct, tick the appropriate box. Update Information: If there are discrepancies in your demographic information, select the appropriate identification documents from the drop-down menu and upload them. Supported formats include JPEG, PNG, and PDF. Post-Deadline Charges After the extended deadline of December 14, 2024, updating your Aadhaar card will incur a fee of ₹50. This fee is applicable for updates performed through the UIDAI portal. In-Person Updates While the free update service is available online, any updates done at an Aadhaar center will require payment.
