Attack on Maa Durga Immersion Procession: Attempted Rape of Woman and FIR Filed Against Ghulam-Ahmad

Lucknow: There has been a horrific attack on the immersion procession of Maa Durga in Kaushambi district of Uttar Pradesh, in which the female devotees involved in the procession were also targeted. The incident took place in Manjhanpur police station area on 12 October 2024, when the devotees involved in the procession were going to immerse the idol of Mata Durga. During the attack, swords were waved and stones were pelted, due to which many devotees were injured.

 

A person named Mandeep Kumar lodged a complaint with the police, in which he told that the female devotees involved in the procession were blowing gulal with devotion. When the procession reached near Imam Chowk in Manjhanpur, some people created a dispute alleging that the gulal had got applied on them. It is alleged that stone pelting started on the procession, and the attackers came down and started attacking using casteist words. The attackers are also accused of hitting the idol of Maa Durga with their feet and spitting on it. Apart from this, an attempt was made to rape a female devotee, who was somehow saved. Mandeep has also mentioned the names of the attackers in the complaint, which include Ghulam Waris, Saeed Ahmed, Rehmat Ali, and others, including some Muslim women.

After the incident, a video of a victim devotee has gone viral, in which he is seen crying after being attacked. The victim alleged that he was attacked by Muslims and also faced lathicharge by the police. Kaushambi police has confirmed the incident and said that an FIR has been registered and necessary action is being taken.
