Assam: Schools and colleges in Assam/Guwahati have reopened from Monday, September 6 for students of Class XII, in a phased manner for final semester students of degree programmes and postgraduate programmes. The Assam govt issued a supplementary SOPs and said that for reopening, the institutions are focusing on multiple criteria- i.e. one is the willingness of the students to attend the classes and the second is the Covid-19 positivity rate in particular districts. So as to maintain social distancing measures, the new standard operating procedure also mandated the capacity of a classroom to be not more than 30 students. It is also mentioned that the virtual mode of education will continue for students who prefer to attend online classes rather than physically attend school. It added that physical attendance in schools is optional and not mandatory. It was in April that Assam state closed its schools and colleges when the second wave of coronavirus pandemic was reported.
