Itanagar: The Arunachal Pradesh Assembly's budget session is set to commence on Friday, with the annual financial statement for the fiscal year 2024-25 scheduled for presentation on July 24. The session will wrap up on July 26, according to an official announcement. Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein, who oversees the Finance and Planning departments, will present the budget on July 24 during the eight-day session, as confirmed by Assembly Secretary Kago Habung. This will mark the first budget of the Pema Khandu government following its third-term re-election. The session will start on Friday with a motion of thanks to the governor's address, Habung mentioned. Governor Lt Gen (Retd) K T Parnaik had addressed the House during the initial session of the Eighth Legislative Assembly, which convened for two days on June 14 and 15. Three significant government bills - 'The Arunachal Pradesh Amending Bill, 2024', 'The Arunachal Pradesh Public Examination (Measures to Prevent Unfair Means in Recruitment) Bill, 2024', and 'The Balipara/Tirap/Sadiya Frontier Tract Jhum Land Regulation (Amendment) Bill, 2024' - are slated to be introduced on the opening day of the session, as per Habung. On Wednesday, Arunachal Assembly Speaker Tesam Pongte chaired a Business Advisory Committee meeting to outline the agenda for the budget session. The meeting was attended by Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pasang Dorjee Sona, Deputy Speaker Kardo Nyigyor, and MLAs Kumar Waii of the Congress, Nikh Kamin of NCP, Thangwang Wangham of NPP, and Oken Tayeng of the People's Party of Arunachal (PPA). All political parties in the state, with the exception of the Congress, which is represented by a single MLA, have extended unconditional support to the BJP government. The ruling BJP holds 46 seats in the 60-member Assembly, while the NPP has five legislators, the NCP (Ajit Pawar faction) has three, and the PPA has two. There are also three independent members.
