Apple is expanding its language support, and starting in April next year, English (India) will be included among several other languages. The company recently announced that the first set of features for Apple Intelligence is now available for iPhone, iPad, and Mac users through a free software update with the release of iOS 18.1, iPadOS 18.1, and macOS Sequoia 15.1. Apple Intelligence is a personal intelligence system that utilizes the power of Apple silicon to understand and create language and images. It simplifies and enhances everyday tasks while prioritizing user privacy in artificial intelligence. “Today marks the availability of the first set of features, with many more rolling out in the coming months,” said the company. In December, Apple Intelligence will support localized English in Australia, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, South Africa, and the UK. The upcoming April software update will further expand language support to include Chinese, English (India), English (Singapore), French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Spanish, Vietnamese, and more. Apple CEO Tim Cook emphasized that Apple Intelligence represents a new era for the iPhone, iPad, and Mac, offering innovative experiences and tools that transform user capabilities. “Apple Intelligence builds on years of innovation in AI and machine learning, putting Apple’s generative models at the core of our devices, giving users a personal intelligence system that is easy to use while protecting their privacy,” Cook said. The system features Writing Tools that are deeply integrated into iOS, iPadOS, and macOS. These tools help users refine their language by rewriting, proofreading, and summarizing text in various applications such as Mail, Messages, Notes, and third-party apps. With the Rewrite feature, Apple Intelligence allows users to select different versions of their writing and adjust the tone—whether professional, concise, or friendly—according to the audience and task. The Proofread function checks grammar, word choice, and sentence structure, suggesting edits with explanations that users can review or accept easily. Users can also summarize selected text into a paragraph, bullet points, a table, or a list. Siri has been redesigned to provide a more natural and flexible experience, featuring a new glowing light that wraps around the edge of the screen when active on iPhone, iPad, or CarPlay. The Photos app now offers enhanced capabilities with natural language search, enabling users to find photos by simply describing what they want to see. The Memories feature allows users to create personalized movies by typing a description. Apple Intelligence will select the best photos and videos based on this description, crafting a storyline with chapters and arranging them into a cohesive movie. In additiona, Apple Intelligence helps users prioritize notifications with summaries, enabling them to scan important details right on the Lock Screen, especially during active group chats. A new Focus mode reduces interruptions by surfacing only the notifications that require immediate attention.
