Amaravati: The government of Andhra Pradesh has published a gazette notification dividing the state's 13 districts into 26 districts. According to the gazette published on Saturday night, all of the new districts will be operational by April 4 (Monday). The YSR Congress government of YS Jagan Mohan Reddy reshuffled IAS and IPS officers and assigned collectors and Superintendents of Police to the newly-created districts soon after the notification was published. The state government had published a draught notification in January inviting recommendations and objections to carve off 26 districts from the existing 13 districts. During the poll campaign for the 2019 Assembly elections, Reddy stated that if his party was elected, every Lok Sabha constituency will be turned into a district. There are 25 Lok Sabha seats in the state. In East Godavari and Visakhapatnam, a district was also constructed to separate the tribal areas.
