Prayagraj: Students at Allahabad University's (AU) department of music and performing arts will now study the life, challenges, and achievements of legendary singer Bharat Ratna Lata Mangeshkar, who died on February 6 at the age of 92 in Mumbai. "A proposal to integrate Lata Mangeshkar's life in the curriculum has been prepared," stated department head Prof Vidyadhar Prasad Mishra. It would be part of the New National Education Policy (NEP)-2020's soon-to-be-launched five-year integrated course." The iconic singer's name has been added to a list that includes Bhimsen Joshi, Alla Rakha Khan, Bismillah Khan, and Pt Jasraj, among other music legends. "The unit based on veteran singers from the county will be implemented after receiving formal clearance from AU's Academic Council (AC) and Executive Council (EC), and is expected to begin in the 2022-23 academic year," Mishra stated.
